The BMW M5 is set to redefine the high-performance sedan market as it launches into its seventh generation, marking a significant milestone with the integration of an electrified drive system for the first time in its 40-year storied history. The new M5 is powered by a bespoke version of the M HYBRID system, achieving a formidable 727 horsepower and a peak torque of 737 lb-ft. This innovative combination of a high-revving V8 engine equipped with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor enables the sedan to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds.

The inclusion of an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive ensures dynamic power transfer, maintaining the brand’s legacy of exhilarating performance. The design of the new BMW M5 speaks volumes about its capabilities, with distinct enhancements that set it apart from the BMW 5 Series Sedan. Notably, the vehicle features pronounced wheel arches, side skirt extensions, and a sculptural front apron. The C-pillar’s model-specific surfacing includes an embossed “M5” logo, adding a touch of exclusivity.

This athletic appearance is complemented by a high proportion of body-colored surfaces, emphasizing a puristic and yet aggressively stylish look that aligns with the M brand’s renowned design philosophy. Internally, the BMW M5’s cabin reflects a luxurious ambiance enriched with M-specific elements, which serve to enhance both comfort and aesthetic appeal. The multi-layered character of the new M5 is evident, offering a sense of poise and assurance that is further amplified by its vast reserves of power.

The sedan seamlessly transitions from a relaxed, electric-only cruise to a full-throttle performance display, unveiling its sporty sedan persona over longer drives and particularly during track sessions. Performance-wise, the M HYBRID system is not just about raw power but also about the intelligent deployment of that power through advanced chassis technology, specifically tuned for the M5’s performance needs. This results in unparalleled transverse and longitudinal dynamics within this vehicle segment, paired with impressive elasticity that pushes the boundaries of what enthusiasts expect from M performance.

Set to debut globally at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024, the new BMW M5 will begin production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing the same month. The worldwide market launch is scheduled for November 2024, coinciding with the introduction of the new BMW M5 Touring. Major markets for this high-performance sedan include North America, Europe, with the USA being the largest single market, followed by significant demand in Great Britain, Germany, South Korea, China, Japan, and Canada.

Technological advancements extend to the M HYBRID drive system which integrates a 4.4-litre V8 engine and an electric motor, tuned specifically for the M5. This system benefits from the latest M TwinPower Turbo technology, a cross-bank exhaust manifold, and optimized oil separation. It delivers a combined output of 585 horsepower from the combustion engine and 197 horsepower from the electric motor.

The synergy between these power units provides instantaneous response and a linear power delivery characteristic of BMW M models, further enhanced by the vehicle’s ability to reach a top speed of 305 km/h (189 mph) with the optional M Driver’s Package. In summary, the new BMW M5 not only continues the tradition of delivering high-performance driving experiences but also introduces cutting-edge hybrid technology, setting a new benchmark in the luxury sports sedan category. This model is poised to attract a new generation of enthusiasts who value power, design, and sustainability.
